We Bit the Hand that Fed us

We bit the hand that fed us

With thorns and iron spikes

We pierced the Lord that led us

To his great sacrifice.

Ordained before creation

Yet fullness of the times

Found sinners reuniting

To orchestrate this crime.

Ours, ours the shameful nature,

The human hatred wild;

His, his the gracious purpose

Of all things reconciled.

                  ~

 Above the highest praises

Of earth and skies and seas

Exalted art Thou, Savior,

Past all doxologies.
